Before understanding the working principle of turbine flow meter, we need to know the composition of

 turbine flowmeter. The turbine flowmeter is composed of a turbine flow sensor and a flow display

 instrument (volume corrector or flow totalizer), which can realize the measurement of instantaneous 

flow and cumulative total, and can realize the instantaneous flow and cumulative total of the standard 

state when humidity and pressure compensation are added. Quantitative measurement. The turbine 

components (including front and rear guides, impellers, bearings, housings, and sales number detection 

components) that sense the fluid flow rate of the turbine flowmeter are generally referred to as turbine 

flow sensors, and the signal processing and conversion part after the turbine speed is detected is called

 Secondary meter or display meter.


Turbine Blades and Pulse Signals


The rotational speed of the turbine is detected by a sensor coil mounted outside the casing. When the 

turbine blade cuts the magnetic field lines generated by the permanent magnet steel in the casing, it will

 cause the change of the magnetic flux in the sensing coil. The sensing coil sends the detected magnetic

 flux periodic change signal to the preamplifier, amplifies and shapes the signal, generates a pulse signal 

proportional to the flow rate, and sends it to the unit conversion and flow accumulation circuit to obtain

 and display the cumulative flow value; At the same time, the pulse signal is also sent to the frequency-current 

conversion circuit to convert the pulse signal into an analog current, thereby indicating the instantaneous

 flow value.

Turbine Wheel Description


According to the installation direction of the impeller relative to the flow direction, it is divided into two

 types: tangential type and axial type. The tangential structure is: the tangential flow of the medium 

makes the impeller in the metering chamber rotate, which can be vividly described as a "waterwheel"; on

 the contrary, the axial flow sets the impeller to keep the shaft parallel to the flow direction in the tube, 

and the impeller It rotates under the action of the axial medium, which can be vividly described as 

a "windmill".


How Turbine Flow Meters Work


The principle of the turbine flowmeter is to place a turbine in the center of the pipeline, and the two ends

 are supported by bearings. When the fluid passes through the pipe, it impacts the turbine blades and 

generates a driving torque for the turbine, so that the turbine rotates by overcoming the friction torque

 and the fluid resistance torque. In a certain flow range, for a certain fluid medium viscosity, the rotational

 angular velocity of the turbine is proportional to the fluid velocity. From this, the fluid flow rate can be 

obtained from the rotational angular velocity of the turbine, which can be calculated.
