Honey Gear Pump Selection
For the customer's honey transportation requirements (medium viscosity 14000cp, flow rate 2-5L/min, room temperature, low pressure,
1.5" flange, SS316 pump head), our technicians recommended the CX-HDD-64 high-speed gear pump, which meets the requirements
in terms of material, structural design, and performance parameters. The following is a detailed analysis:
I. Material Compatibility Analysis
Pump Body (316L)
316L stainless steel is a food-grade material, resistant to acidic components in honey (such as organic acids). It resists sugar corrosion
and meets hygiene standards (such as FDA and 3A certification requirements), preventing media contamination.
Compared to ordinary 304 stainless steel, 316L contains molybdenum (Mo), making it more resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion,
and more suitable for long-term contact with high-viscosity, sugar-containing media.
Gear Shaft (2507 Super Duplex Stainless Steel)
2507 duplex stainless steel combines the toughness of austenitic stainless steel with the strength of ferritic stainless steel. It is resistant
to chloride ion corrosion (such as trace amounts of salt in honey), has high hardness (HRC≥32), and is suitable for high-viscosity media.
Shearing and conveying.
Compared to ordinary stainless steel gears, 2507 material reduces wear and extends service life.
Bearings (Silicon Carbide)
Silicon carbide (SiC) bearings have high hardness (HRC≥90), low coefficient of friction, and wear resistance, making them suitable for
conveying high-viscosity, non-lubricating media (such as honey).
Compared to metal bearings, silicon carbide bearings require no additional lubrication, avoiding media contamination, and can withstand
high temperatures (although this case is at room temperature, performance margins are reserved for possible high-temperature conditions
in the future).
PTFE Seals and Mechanical Seals
PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) seals have strong chemical corrosion resistance, can withstand acidic substances in honey, and have a
low coefficient of friction, reducing the risk of leakage.
The mechanical seal design further reduces the leakage rate (≤0.5mL/min), meeting sanitary conveying requirements.
II. Performance Parameter Matching Analysis
Flow Range (2-5L/min)
The inlet and outlet diameter of CX-HDD-64 is DN40 (1.5" flange matching), and the designed flow rate can cover the 2-5L/min requirement.
The flow rate of a gear pump is directly proportional to its rotational speed. The flow rate can be precisely matched by adjusting the motor
speed (e.g., using frequency converter control).
Viscosity Adaptability (14000cp)
Gear pumps are suitable for conveying medium to high viscosity media (typically 1-100,000cp), with 14000cp falling within their high-efficiency
range. Internal gear pumps (such as the structure potentially used in the CX-HDD-64) convey media through volumetric changes generated
by gear meshing, making them insensitive to viscosity changes and exhibiting low shear force, thus avoiding damage to the honey's structure.
Pressure and Speed
In this case, low pressure is required. The gear pump's outlet pressure can be controlled by adjusting the displacement (gear module, number
of teeth) and rotational speed (after a 1:10 reduction gear, the motor speed is 1450rpm → pump speed is 145rpm), preventing the honey
from overheating or spoiling due to high pressure.
Low rotational speed (e.g., 145rpm) reduces gear wear, extends seal life, and lowers noise (≤65dB).
III. Structural Advantages and Added Value
Hygienic Design: Smooth, dead-angle-free flow path (e.g., polishing Ra≤0.4μm) facilitates CIP/SIP cleaning, prevents bacterial growth, and
meets food industry standards.
Low Maintenance Costs: The combination of mechanical seals and silicon carbide bearings reduces leakage and wear, extending maintenance
intervals to ≥5000 hours and reducing downtime risk.
Energy Saving and Stability: The 1:10 reduction gear design lowers the motor load; a 1.1kW motor is sufficient, reducing energy consumption
by over 60% compared to direct drive.
The gear pump boasts a volumetric efficiency ≥92%, with superior flow stability compared to screw or centrifugal pumps, making it suitable
for metering and conveying.
IV. Selection Recommendations and Quotation Consultation
Flange Standard Confirmation: Confirm with the customer whether the 1.5" flange meets Chinese National Standard (GB), American
Standard (ANSI), or Japanese Standard (JIS) to avoid installation incompatibility.
Temperature Range: Although the range is room temperature, confirm whether frictional heat generation during honey transportation may
cause temperature increases (if exceeding 60℃, a higher temperature-resistant material must be selected).
Quotation and Delivery: Contact Winny at CIXIFM (email: sales01@cxflowmeter.com; WhatsApp: 008618049841995) for
detailed quotations, delivery times, and after-sales support.
Conclusion: The CX-HDD-64 gear high-speed pump fully meets the requirements for honey transportation in terms of materials,
performance, and structure, making it the preferred solution that balances hygiene, stability, and economy.
