The working principle of thermal mass flowmeter is mainly based on the law of heat transfer, and the mass flow rate of fluid is determined
by measuring the heat conducted by the fluid. Its detailed working principle is as follows:
Overview of working principle
The thermal mass flowmeter measures the mass flow rate of fluid by using the temperature field change generated when the fluid flows
through a pipe heated by an external heat source, or by heating the fluid and measuring the relationship between the energy required for
its temperature rise and the mass of the fluid. This flowmeter is particularly suitable for measuring the mass flow rate of gas because it has
the characteristics of high precision, high repeatability and high reliability.
Specific working principle
Heating and temperature measurement:
The thermal mass flowmeter contains two key components: one is the heater (heat source) and the other is the temperature sensor. The
heater is responsible for providing heat to the fluid to increase its temperature; while the temperature sensor is used to monitor the change
in fluid temperature.
When the fluid flows through the heater, it will take away some heat, causing the temperature of the heater to change. This temperature
change is directly related to the mass flow rate of the fluid.
Heat transfer and flow measurement:
Heat transfer is proportional to the fluid velocity, that is, the faster the fluid velocity, the more heat it takes away. Therefore, by measuring
the heat taken away by the fluid, the mass flow rate of the fluid can be indirectly measured.
In practical applications, the temperature sensor monitors the changes in fluid temperature in real time and converts these changes into
electrical signals for processing. The processed signal is calculated by the algorithm to obtain the mass flow value of the fluid.
Control mechanism:
In order to maintain accuracy during the measurement process, the thermal mass flow meter usually contains a control mechanism to
adjust the power or temperature of the heater to maintain a constant temperature difference with the fluid. This control mechanism helps
to eliminate the influence of environmental factors on the measurement results.
Features and advantages
High precision: Since the mass flow of the fluid is measured directly, it is not affected by changes in physical properties such as fluid
density, pressure and temperature.
High reliability: There are no mechanical parts inside, which reduces failure points and maintenance costs.
Wide applicability: It can be used to measure the flow of various types of gases, including corrosive, flammable and explosive special
gases.
Low pressure loss: The design is reasonable and the pressure loss caused to the fluid flow is small.

Thermal mass flow meter is widely used in fields that require high-precision flow measurement, such as coal gas flow measurement
in steel mills and coking plants; air flow measurement in boilers; and air flow monitoring in automobile engines. In these applications,
